| Fruithill Trophies |
| The Society has built up a tremendous collection
of trophies over the years, and they represent facets of the history
of Fruithill. Most of these have been donated by the members
themselves or have come from outside sponsors. Thus we have the
earliest cups such as the Allied Irish, Tuborg, O'Shaughnessy and
the J B Kennedy which came from early sponsors and which are awarded
to the winners of specific outings. The original Captains Cup
awarded to the winner of Captains Day has now been replaced by the
Dennis Flanagan Cup in memory of a past captain. Captains Day has
also the Past Captains and Past Presidents cups supplied by past
members and sponsors. Matchplay cups such as the Hannigan and the
M'Gowan are still competed for although these competitions have
changed a lot both in qualification and in sponsorship. |
| The M'Kiernan, M'Callin, Muldoon and Forrester cups have all
been presented by members in memory of deceased relatives and
friends. Much happier times are commemorated by the Pat Rooney
Cup(awarded to the Golfer of the Year)which came from a member
before he emigrated to Australia and the Pat Armstrong cup which
goes to the winner of the Spanish trip each year. The Weekend trophy
and the Wardair are also cups that are rooted in the early travels
of the club. |
