Frank Dalton died outside the clubhouse at Laguna Golf
Club, Villamoura, on 13th. September 2002. He and twenty other members
and friends of Fruithill Golf Society had arrived in Portugal to enjoy a
week in the golfing resort in the Algarve. Frank never stepped on the
first tee.
He joined Fruithill in 1989 and was an enthusiastic supporter of all
events. In 1995 he became a committee member and the following year was
secretary. The attitude of "It'll do" was far from Frank's
philosophy and anything for which he was responsible had to be as near
perfect as possible. He captained the Society in 1999 and was recognised
as one of our most efficient and reliable officials.
He will be remembered for his friendly and outgoing personality. He was
ready to join in all aspects of the Society, played in all the
competitions and enjoyed many weekends away in Ireland. He could take
any joke or criticism and turn it back with interest and was totally
devoid of any pettyness in all his dealings.
There may be those who will recall him as "the Fruithill captain
who died in Portugal", but I will remember him as Frankie Dalton
the golfing friend who always competed fiercely but fairly, with whom I
relaxed and enjoyed great company at many dinners and functions over the
years and who always had a smile on his face.
