| At the year 2000 AGM the
incoming captain was able to announce that he had doubled the financial
resources of the Society in his last year as Treasurer. The Secretary's
report was brief and reflected the fact that membership was static at
the moment. The outgoing President Pat Collins welcomed John Glackin in
his place. John Glackin played as a member in the first Fruithill outing
in 1972 and will be a respected President. John was captain in 1986 and
has his name on most of the Fruithill trophies. |
| The only contentious issue at
the meeting was brought up by Frank O'Rawe who felt that a complaint he
had made in writing had not been properly dealt with. The facts aired at
the meeting seemed to show that he had a valid complaint. The return to
the West Belfast Society competition was deemed to have been successful
but a different method of selecting the team would be required. So
Seamus Fay started his captaincy with John Glackin as the new President
in good conditions at Down Royal where Pat M'Corry's score of 41 points
proved to be the highest of the year. |
| The society returned to
Armagh and Whitehead courses which had not been visited for donkeys
years and Joe Murray who had not won an Overall prize since 1987 took
top place at Armagh. Kevin Fennell won his first Overall prize at
Whitehead and went on to repeat that feat at Ardglass. M'Gowan winners
were Seamus Gormley and Pat M'Aleese who beat James Duggan and Joe
Sloan. James won the Hannigan competition by beating our captain Seamus
Fay and eventually ran out winner of the M'Callin and the Golfer of the
Year. He also won Captains Day!! |
| Membership numbers appear to
have stalled at under sixty but there has been a slight increase in
numbers at the outings. Once again sponsorship has been mostly
forthcoming from the members themselves including our President who
introduced his son Brian as a sponsor at Killymoon. This financial help
is appreciated by all. |
