Frank Dalton's year as Captain will be remembered chiefly for his inability to control the weather. The society has always been very lucky over the years but the law of averages caught up and only the Weekend at Bundoran and Captains Day at Dunmurry produced proper golfing weather.
Paul Mulgrew completed a double by winning the Golfer of the Year and the M'Callin competitions at the last outing. The Maguire Fourball was won by Paul Gormley and Sam M'Garry and the Fruithill Matchplay by Seamus Fay. Both of the Matchplay competitions were dogged by problems and were a disappointment to players and sponsors alike. Captain's Day at the captain's home course of Dunmurry was graced with good weather and great eating arrangements but was eventually marred somewhat by a mistake at the presentation of the prizes.
The nomination for "Unluckiest Golfer of the Year" goes to Joe Sloan. Joe had the experience of being announced as winner of Captain's Day and enjoying great acclaim at the presentation in Dunmurry. Unfortunately it transpired that Paddy Collins was the actual winner and a mistake had been made in checking the scores. At the end of the last outing at Down Royal Paul Mulgrew beat Joe to the Golfer of the Year title by one point.
At the AGM a new category of "associate member" of the society was voted through and it will be interesting to see how this works in the future.
