| Jack M'Gowan took over from Jim Crawford as President this year when Gerry Kayes had mixed fortunes over his year as captain. The matchplay competitions were run
successfully but there were still the usual difficulties in getting matches played and it was finally decided to abandon the Members Matchplay competition. The society returned to Lurgan for the
first time since 1990 and a second visit to Athlone for the Mayday weekend was enjoyed by all who attended. There were however problems when the Spanish trip clashed with Captains Day. |
| Marty Rea was the most successful player of the year winning both the Golfer of the year and M'Callin Trophies by big margins and also winning on Captains Day and
Dungannon. In addition he had time to partner Brendan M'Goldrick when winning the M'Gowan Cup. Billy M'Ilroy was top scorer on Presidents Day and Stevie M'Laughlin had two great wins at Down Royal
and Tandragee. The highest score was a 38 at Killymoon by Michael Flanagan when the society returned after five years absence and at Tandragee by Stevie M'Laughlin. This was the first time since 1982
that 40 or more points had not been scored by some player over the year, so the Handicap Committee were doing their job well. |
| At the AGM Frank Dalton reported that there was an average attendance of 35 members per outing from a membership of 66. Joe Loughran presented the Treasurers Report which
showed that he had handled over £15,000 and that the society had over £600 in the bank. The increase had largely been due to the Night at the Races function run by the committee and Joe
felt that an increase in subscriptions would be necessary to ensure smooth running this year. Under AOB a most acrimonious discussion took place on a number of items. The Treasurers report revealed
that £750 had been spent on prizes for Captains Day and as this was an increase of £150 there was plenty of comment from the members who felt it was not justified. Some members were also
annoyed about the way in which those on the Spanish trip were denied the chance of taking part in Captains Day |
