| Frank Bradley can look back upon a successful year as captain with the best spell of weather since 1976 he was untroubled by any postponements. With the exception of Roe
Park attendances were very good and Captains Day at Kilkeel took place in glorious conditions. The May Weekend was an outstanding success from all aspects, being played on two great courses at
Glasson and Mount Temple and enjoyable accommodation in Athlone. Martin M'Granaghan had the highest total score over the two days. |
| Ernie Garland joined the select group who have had a "Hole in One" when he aced the thirteenth at Down Royal with a three iron. He also ended up as winner on the day to
record his first win with the society. No-one dominated the competitions this year and although Brian Canning won the Golfer of the Year and the M'Callin at the last outing it was a close run thing.
Frank O'Rawe took the Members which again had a poor response. |
| The visit to Roe Park for the first time resulted in the lowest ever turnout with only 20 members attending. At Spa playing partners Gabriel Mulhern and Michael Flanagan
both returned 34 points with Gabriel losing the Overall prize on a countback. The highest score was 42 points by Jim M'Alister at Dungannon in March followed by a 41 at Dunmurry by Oliver M'Donald
and a 40 by Gerry Kayes at Portadown. |
| An appeal was made at the AGM for new members for the committee and was answered by Brian M'Goldrick and Stevie M'Laughlin who had not served before and by Frank O'Rawe
who was on the committee for two years in the 1980's. They replaced Danny M'Ilroy who had twice been captain, Jack M'Gowan who had twice been secretary and Brian Canning who had been Treasurer twice!
They have also put in over 30 years on the committee between them. In 1995 membership was 70 and the average outing increased to 39 despite the low turnout of 20 at Roe Park which was more than
compensated by 53 members who enjoyed Captains Day at Kilkeel. Once again the average member played 5 or 6 outings, 22 played 8 or more (3 played every outing) and 8 played 2 or less so support is as
strong as ever despite the increasing cost of outings. |
