| Members enjoyed another successful year under the captaincy of Danny M'Ilroy and got through a full programme of outings and competitions with the usual trials and
tribulations along the way. A great weekend outing at Buncrana, a Captain's Day held at Ballyliffin, a first ever visit to Kilkeel and the overseas trip to Spain provided plenty of traveling
opportunities for the members. |
| Mick Casey with three Overall wins and the Hannigan Cup collected the Golfer of the Year prize. Joe Hunter won the Members Cup in a competition dogged by the usual
problems in getting matches played and the M'Callin Cup was taken by Oliver M'Donald in a close contest which had half a dozen players in with a chance on the last outing of the season. Lenny
Griffiths with 40 points secured the Presidents Prize at Dungannon in September when the competition was played in the worst weather conditions of the year. |
| By the end of the year the society had played over 50 different courses, at least 30 in Northern Ireland, at least 12 in the rest of Ireland and at least 9 outside
Ireland. In 1994 there were 75 registered members and the average outing had 36 members. The lowest turnout was 27 at Mourne. The highest turnout was 43 at Portadown and at Ballyliffin on Captain's
Day. The average member played 5 to 6 outings, while 23 members played 2 or less and 20 members played 8 or more. |
| The average score was 26 and the highest 40 points by Lenny Griffiths who was the only player to get out of the thirties this year. More than 30 members have been with the
society for over 10 years and in 1994 the committee had 6 past captains which was why the Secretary made an appeal for younger members to take a hand in the running of the society. Joe Hunter lost a
golfing partner and the society lost a well regarded member when Paul Fitzpatrick took ill and died when returning with Joe from Massereene where they had been playing in a competition together. |
