| The society finally completed 21 years in existence in this year with Brian Canning as its captain. Brian had spent untold years as treasurer and had been famous for his
accounts which were kept on small pieces of paper and yet together with his auditor Ben M'Callum the finances were never seriously challenged. . |
| Yet again a new venue was obtained for the May weekend when members stayed in Ballina and played golf on the massive Enniscrone course. As befits such a big course it
took a big man to win and Mick Casey was the man in question. The course was terrific but the Hotel was something else again and nobody who enjoyed that weekend will ever forget it. For Captains Day
Brian decided to separate the actual golf at Dungannon on Sunday from the presentation which was held in the Falls premises the following Friday. At that presentation 16 of the past captains
attended. The value of the Captains prize allocation for this year was now £300 which was a far cry from the early days when the society considered rejecting a sponsors offer of £75 for
prizes on the grounds that it was too much. Des Peden was the first name onto the Dennis Flanagan Cup which became the top prize for Captains Day. Not surprisingly Des also won the Past Captains Cup
and the Past Presidents Shield on the same day. |
| Highest score of the year was 42 by Tommy Devlin at Ballyclare. John Glackin at Silverwood and Frank O'Rawe at Mourne both scored a total of 41. Frank only won on a
countback from Pat Kayes with Pat Collins close up on 40 points. The last outing of the year tends to produce high scoring for some unknown reason. |
| The Dinner Dance was held in the Devenish Arms and at the AGM it was revealed that the finances which had been £400 ahead at the beginning of the year were now just
£30 in front. The captain volunteered to return the following year as treasurer to put the finances back in proper order. |
