Frank who had taken the same route. The continuing rising costs of society golf were again in evidence and a "200" club was run to help pay expenses. The cheapest outing was held at Mourne early in
the year and cost £12 including a meal at the Bay Inn Dundrum. The "200" club was very successful and by August the society had a balance of £1300 in the bank. This enabled the committee
to vote £250 for the Captains Day Prizes. The question of members marking their own scorecards was taken up by the committee and it was announced that any one doing so would be disqualified
from competition. |
| Gerry Cullen narrowly beat Kieran Walsh and Joe Hunter to the Golfer of the Year title without winning an outing. In contrast Kieran won at Moyola, partnered M Flynn to a
M'Gowan victory and also triumphed in the Hannigan and M'Callin while Joe was successful with two Overall wins. The first outing was won by Jimmy Murphy with 44 points at Mourne and Joe Hunter
followed this with 43 at Dungannon. Over the year ten scores of 40 or over were returned with Kieran Walsh and Frank O'Rawe performing the feat twice. The closest contest of the season was at
Killymoon where Danny M'Ilroy won on a countback from Gerry Cullen, George Fegan and Leo M'Court all on 33 points. This made up a double for Danny as he had already been winner of the weekend
outing. |
| Members were continuing to have successful trips to Spain organized by Jim Crawford and Jim Murphy and a very good week was spent in Benalmedina with golf at Mijas and

English Bar where Danny M'Ilroy had told the other teams that they had no hope of beating the Irish. |
