| At the AGM the previous year the members decided that the Dinner Dance would no longer require formal dress, thus ending a long period in which many thought that this
format was too expensive and no longer appropriate. In response to members it was also decided to have the Dinner Dance and AGM after Christmas as an experiment. At that same AGM Tommy Hannigan
became the next President of the society. Another change to a long standing Fruithill tradition was that the M'Gowan Foursomes became a Fourball competition and the challenge of playing alternate
shots with your partner was lost. But while we were losing some old traits Terry O'Neill and Noel Havlin put forward a trophy to commemorate a former Fruithill Captain and President, the late Peter
Forrester. |
| On the golfing front the society had a team ending in third place in the West Belfast Societies competition. The first three teams in this competition all had 50 points
each and the result was decided on a countback with the Glen society retaining the cup which they had won the previous year. The team was Danny M'Ilroy, Paul M'Quillan and Dennis Flanagan. Danny and
Paul also won the "Twos" competition and Paul was "nearest the hole" at the par three Eighteenth. Pat Hughes had his moment of glory at Killymoon when he returned a score of 47 points with his
nearest pursuer being Eugene Greenan on 38 points. Pat had his handicap reduced by 5 shots. |
| Paddy Martin won the Hannigan for the third time and Tony Kelly was the only one with a "double" when he won the Members to add to his win at the Weekend outing. The
weekend had been held in Ballybofey where the course had been good and the food and entertainment in Jackson's Hotel had been even better. |
| The year was completed by the first informal Dinner Dance in the Greenan Lodge Hotel in January 1989. |
