| The year began with high scoring at the first three outings. At Dungannon Paddy Martin with 41 lost out to Jimmy Murphy with 42 and at Ballycastle Paddy Martin and Joe Hunter both on 40 points
were still beaten by Jim Crawford on 42. The Handicap committee managed to restrict the scores over the middle of the season before they returned to similar levels at the later outings of the season
with Brendan Griffin returning 40 at Tandragee. |
| The society again returned to the Isle of Man for their weekend where Paul M'Quillan was the winner. The cost including golf, hotels and cost of flying was £95. This must have been regarded
as slightly expensive as it was the last visit to the Isle of Man. In September the society resumed its travels by taking a week in Portugal at Alvor in the Algarve region. The Penina and Palmares
courses were played with the Penina course being regarded as one of the best courses yet visited by the members. The fact that there was a walk through bar between the ninth green and the tenth tee
was a big attraction. Portugal was more expensive than the Spanish trip but the food in the Titanic restaurant in Praia da Rocha was worth every penny and the grilled sardines on the quay were
something to remember. Also worth remembering was Frank O'Donnell's singing at the poolside on the last day as the group enjoyed the last few hours of the holiday. |
| Pat Rooney emigrated to Australia and before leaving donated a trophy which was later used as the Golfer of the Year cup and was first won by Joe Hunter. Finances were in a good state as the
Captain's allowance for Captains Day was increased to £200. |
| At the 1985 AGM the new Constitution was presented by a member of Gary O'Reilly's staff and was accepted. In comparison to the original constitution which consisted of nine statements contained
on a single sheet, the new one took up six pages and comprehensively covered the affairs of the Society. |
