| Jimmy Murphy was the new President when Jim M'Alister began his year with the society's finances down to a surplus of only £25 but a 'Night at the Races' held in the Falls premises came up
with a profit of £500 to meet expenses. At the end of the year the balance was £50 so things turned out all right after all. |
| The matter of club handicaps had given some problems and it was decided that in future a player could not have a handicap higher than his club handicap. At the previous AGM the question of a
Constitution for the Society had been raised. A very rudimentary one was in existence but did not cover all the possibilities raised by such a large number of members that now played in the society.
Instead of a weekend in Donegal the society continued in its travels and ventured outside Ireland once more and had a weekend in the Isle of Man. Brian Bradley was the winner of the trophy. In the
other competitions Joe Murray was the most consistent performer and ran out as the Golfer of the Year and also had time to win the M'Gowan competition in partnership with Joe Hunter. Danny O'Loan won
the Presidents Day outing at Portadown while breaking forty points became commonplace. Joe Murray opened the year with forty-two at Mourne, Frank M'Gowan had a forty-one at Killymoon and Barney Burke
beat them all with a forty-three at Tandragee. No wonder that questions were asked at the AGM about the Handicap committee. |
| At the last outing of the year at Mourne players were restricted to three clubs and a putter and D M'Ilroy won with forty points with his nearest challenger being Tommy Hannigan who was three
points behind. Arthur Lavery provided his usual selection of Turkeys and Hams and Pat Collins weighed in with surprise packets to round off a great years golf. |
| There was a poor turnout at the Annual Dance resulting in a loss of £350 on the event. This was later attributed to the venue (Falls Bowling Club) and also to the fact that a Formal dress
policy was not too popular any more. |
