| The silverware in the society continued to increase when the John M'Callin Cup was donated by Mrs M'Callin and Pat Collins. The first winner was Carlo Fusco. The winner was the competitor who
scored the most points over the whole of the year's outings the intention being to encourage members to play as many outings as possible. In this year also the Past Captains Cup was donated by Mrs
Betty Fusco and Ben M'Callum won it in the first two years of its existence. The elected committee underwent a change during the year when Des Cunningham stepped down and his place was filled by Joe
Murray. |
| The wanderlust of the society members had really been stirred by the trip to Canada and this year they decided that a week in Spain would do them nicely. Thus it was that the society ended up in
Fuengirola and enjoyed golf on the Mijas course, sun on the beach and eating out at the restaurants in the resort. Danny M'Ilroy who had won at Indian Wells in Canada completed an International
double at Mijas. Most of the adventures of the members are best kept for private conversation but the captain is remembered for his generosity at the celebration dinner before we returned home. It is
rumored that his tip to the Chief Waiter on behalf of the society members was the biggest received in the night club since a member of the Saudi Arabian Royal Family had attended. Sean later claimed
that he was unfamiliar with the Spanish currency. |
| Danny M'Ilroy enjoyed travelling this year as he also won the Weekend trophy. But Carlo Fusco had a really good year by winning the Hannigan Cup, the M'Callin Trophy and sharing the Golfer of the
Year with Joe Hunter. Joe Murray and John Glackin won the M'Gowan Trophy and Leo M'Court took the Members to round off a good year for the butchers. Gerry Thompson was successful on Captains Day with
thirty-nine points but Joe Dornan had the highest score of the year with forty-two points at Fortwilliam on Presidents Day. Danny O'Loan with forty-one points just pipped Norman Fletcher with forty
at the last outing at Mourne. |
