| As a result of a proposal by Eamonn Hynes at the AGM in 1977, the Golfer of the Year was to be run in future on a points basis. A Foursomes competition started sponsored by the M'Gowan brothers
and was won by Tommy Hannigan and Brendan Griffin and Paul M'Quillan won the Members trophy again. The J B Kennedy cup was presented by D Brennan and Pat Collins was the first winner and retained it
the next year as well. Terry O'Neill became President in place of Brian Gilfedder who was granted life membership of the society. It was also decided that in future President's fees would be free.
Jim Crawford was also elevated in status when he was appointed as PRO because it was felt that not enough publicity was being given to our sponsors. |
| A very enjoyable time was had at Greenore where Fred Daly was the guest of the society and he entertained both Fruithill and Greenore members with an exhibition on the first tee. J M'Gowan with
45 points won the overall prize and was rewarded with a handicap cut of eleven shots!! Greenfees were £1.50, meal was £3 and members were charged £5.50 which included the bus. The
weekend outing was again held in Ardara with golf on the Narin and Portnoo course. The Dungannon outing coincided with the World Cup final but the outing went ahead anyway. This was almost a serious
miscalculation as captain Carlo Fusco (a good Irish League player at one time) was very concerned about Italy's chances of winning. |
| Because of the high membership numbers it was decided to rearrange the sections and they became:- Low 1-12 Mid 13-17 High 18-24 Extra-high 25-36. |
| At the AGM a proposal was passed that in future Committee Members would require a Proposer and a Seconder. Up to now a Proposer alone had been sufficient. Once again the annual Dinner was held at
Balmoral and was well attended by members and guests. |
