| This was a year in which the society continued its development and one aspect was shown in the change of name to The Fruithill Golfing Society to avoid confusion with the Falls Club itself. Again
the committee as formed at the AGM was changed during the year when Brian Bradley took over the Treasurer's duties. A profit of £38 was made on an outing and was regarded as too much. |
| The first weekend at the Narin and Portnoo course was organized by Brian Bradley with members staying in Nesbitts Hotel in Ardara, a popular venue to which the society returned in subsequent
years. This aspect of the society was to become very popular and Jim Crawford was later to become the recognized "Travel Agent" for the society. From a tentative start with visits to Donegal the
society played most of the Donegal courses then ranged further afield to Scotland and the Isle of Man for weekend outings. Strangely enough the society has never played in Fermanagh. Eventually the
trips branched out globally with visits to Canada, Spain and Portugal. For the first time a midweek outing was arranged and took place at Balmoral and was adjudged to be a success. |
| Paddy Martin won the Hannigan by default when Eamonn Hynes refused to play him at Balmoral. Here again we see that the affairs of the society never did run smoothly at all times. Paddy Rooney
claimed the AIB trophy and E. Leddy the Presidents Cup while the winner of the O'Shaughnessy Cup is not recorded on the trophy. |
| The minutes of the early meetings are models of understatement and conceal more than they reveal. The committees were conducted by characters who knew how to enjoy themselves but were also
sticklers for rules. Peter Forrester obviously had a great liking for taking a hand out of other members of the committee as some of the minutes are couched in very ambiguous terms. The early
secretaries were very circumspect in how they recorded the proceedings but reading between the lines the meetings were often hilarious rather than serious. Unfortunately though the many committee
meetings are recorded faithfully in the Minute books there is a gap in the recording of scores for the years 1975 to 1979. |
